The Rebel Ascendant’s assignment to retrieve Dr. Tavanda Ruun from occupied Clonmel.

The Clonmel extraction is the assignment that opens *Geometry of Grace*. Captain [Kaid Sidorov](https://emissary.mdscur.com/encyclopedia/kaid-sidorov/) and the crew of the [Rebel Ascendant](https://emissary.mdscur.com/encyclopedia/rebel-ascendant/) are sent to retrieve [Dr. Tavanda Ruun](https://emissary.mdscur.com/encyclopedia/tavanda-ruun/) from an occupied world.

## Cover and approach

The crew travels under temporary identities and enters with an asylum caravan. Its transport has also been disguised: the Ascendant appears to be a worn NGO corvette, a ship easier to wave through than investigate.

The crew’s immediate tasks are concrete. They must pass inspection, reach the handoff, identify the scientist, and get her to the ship. Each part depends on the cover surviving long enough for the next movement.

## Why the assignment matters

Ruun’s work makes her worth extracting. The mission brings the crew into contact with knowledge whose significance reaches beyond a conventional covert job.
